During the 90's when I used to travel between cities in Tamilnadu by buses during holidays, I used to book ticket in advance to stand out of competition. The bus fares remain the same but it will be unavailable for last minute travelers. Similarly for cinemas, rail booking, air booking etc., then during the early 2000 the rates of buses increased during festival times and the tickets were available even before journey but still some people traveled in same rates if they were able to book their tickets well in advance. Then started the Surge pricing phenomena (Pricing based on demand) where you can charge as you like based on the emergency and on the amount the customer is willing to pay. This surge pricing has now rooted in almost all business irrespective of rich and poor. During the flood of 2015 I myself have witnessed how the person who delivers milk to our houses sold the milk to others at a high rate and denying milk to us.
